Abbey Hanson

Full Spectrum Doula

About Me

Hi, I'm Abbey! My path to becoming a birth worker has always been rooted in care, community, and healing. I am a trained birth doula and holistic wellness advocate, and I graduated from the accredited doula program through Black Women Birthing Justice. Beyond my doula training, I have completed over 100 hours in lactation consulting and am currently continuing my education through a nutritionist program, so I can offer even more comprehensive support to the families I serve. This work is truly my calling.

My passion for birth work is deeply connected to my family history and upbringing. I was raised by a mother who practiced herbalism and inspired me to understand the healing power of plants, nourishment, and natural wellness. My great-grandmother was a midwife and healer, and I carry her legacy with pride and purpose into the work I do today. Growing up, my family cultivated much of our own food, prioritized organic and Halal meals, and believed strongly in caring for the body through holistic living. Those experiences shaped not only who I am as a doula, but also my work as a holistic chef and community-centered caregiver.

Professionally, my background has always centered on supporting others. Through my work in education, wellness, caregiving, and community service, I have developed a compassionate, calm, and nurturing approach that helps families feel safe, seen, and supported during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As the founder of Catering with Love, I also create nourishing, health-conscious meals designed to support overall wellness and healing. I believe birth is a sacred and transformative experience, and I am passionate about helping families feel empowered, informed, and cared for throughout their journey.

Looking ahead, I hope to travel to different parts of the world to study traditional cooking practices, holistic healing, and the ways women experience pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care across cultures. There is so much wisdom to learn from communities around the world, and I look forward to bringing those lessons back into my work as a doula, wellness advocate, and healer.

Practice Philosophy

As a birth worker, lactation consultant, and holistic chef, I approach my work through the belief that pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and recovery are deeply interconnected experiences that affect the mind, body, emotions, family, and spirit. My philosophy centers on nurturing the whole person through compassionate, nonjudgmental, and individualized care that honors both evidence-based knowledge and intuitive wisdom.

I believe in supporting my clients not only with their birth plan, but with the information they need to make informed choices, alongside trauma-aware care, nourishing postpartum recovery, and responsive feeding. Throughout, I emphasize rest, emotional safety, nervous system regulation, and the importance of family and community support. As a holistic chef, I believe food is medicine and nourishment for recovery. I see birth as a transformative life transition, and postpartum as a sacred period deserving of intentional care.

My goal is to provide culturally grounded, holistic support that honors each family's unique needs, traditions, and vision for birth. Overall, when parents feel informed, supported, nourished, seen, and empowered, families are better able to heal, bond, and thrive.
