Abbie Rickard, CD (CHB), is a birth and postpartum doula serving the greater Los Angeles area. She trained and certified with Carriage House Birth in 2022. Supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period is truly her calling.
A dedicated student of birth work and reproductive justice, Abbie believes every person has the right to bodily autonomy and informed consent. Her mission is to support her clients and community in achieving exactly that, helping every family feel informed, respected, and empowered every step of the way.
My philosophy is best captured by a metaphor I often return to when I imagine supporting my clients. Picture us traveling together through a deep, wooded forest. I'm a fairly experienced backpacker, and I've brought along the gear I've found helpful over the years. You and your partner are newer to backpacking, and you've invited me to explore this uncharted territory alongside you, bringing your own things you believe will help on the journey.
We don't have a map or a marked trail to follow, and we can't always know what obstacles we'll encounter along the way. So we move forward together, one step at a time, navigating our way to the other side. That's how I see my role in your birth and postpartum journey, not leading from the front or directing your path, but walking beside you with experience, preparation, and steady presence, while honoring that this is your journey and your choices.
Overall, my goal is to help you feel equipped, supported, and confident as we navigate this path together, so you reach the other side feeling empowered and cared for every step of the way.
