My name is Desiree Dougherty. I am a birth doula, pregnancy coach, childbirth educator, and mother of two living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I became a doula after the birth of my own two children, two very different experiences that showed me how birth can be a source of power and strength that then carries up into our lives as parents.
In my practice, I work with families to prepare for birth and the transition into postpartum by providing education and personalized coaching so that they craft a vision for their birth that reflects their unique values and speaks to who they are both as individuals and as a family unit. This may includes mindfulness and breathing practices, movement and positioning exercises, and setting expectations around the realities of childbirth.
I have experience in supporting families seeking both medicated and unmedicated births, VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean), induction birth, cesarean births, and birth after loss. No matter what kind of birth you are planning, you deserve to feel supported and empowered in the process of meeting your baby, and it is my mission to help you achieve this.
When I am not teaching or supporting families in birth spaces, I can be found belly-dancing, baking bread and treats for my kiddos, or frolicking around the Bay with my family.
Doulas offer a variety of services, primarily focused on providing emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.
