Hi, I'm Desiree Williams! I'm an African American mother of four, born and raised in Los Angeles, and my journey into birth work is deeply personal. Throughout my own pregnancies, I experienced what so many women, especially Black and Brown women, face in the healthcare system: I felt unheard, my concerns were dismissed, and there were moments when I felt scared, unsupported, and unsafe during one of the most vulnerable times in my life. Those experiences stayed with me.
Working in a hospital setting for four years, I came to see that my experience wasn't unique. I witnessed the same patterns of mistreatment in Black and Brown communities, patients not being listened to, voices overlooked, and care that lacked compassion and respect. As often the only African American in that space, seeing it firsthand was heartbreaking. That's when I realized my purpose was deeper than simply providing care: I knew I was called to advocate.
Now, as a birth doula, I'm committed to making sure you never feel alone, unheard, or unsupported in your journey. I provide guidance, education, and advocacy so you can walk into your birth experience feeling confident, respected, and in control. This work is truly my calling.
Because you deserve to be heard, you deserve to feel safe, and you deserve support that truly stands beside you, not just during labor, but throughout your entire journey. I would be honored to walk alongside you, making sure your voice is protected, your choices are respected, and your birth experience feels safe, supported, and truly yours.
My approach to prenatal, birth, and postpartum support is rooted in advocacy, education, and trust. I believe every woman deserves to feel heard, respected, and fully supported throughout her journey, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. Too often, especially within Black and Brown communities, concerns are overlooked and voices go unheard, and my work is centered on changing that.
During pregnancy, I focus on preparing you with knowledge and clarity, so you understand your options, feel confident in your decisions, and know how to navigate the healthcare system. During labor and birth, I provide continuous, grounded support, helping you stay centered, advocating for your preferences, and ensuring you're never left to navigate important moments alone.
After birth, I offer compassionate postpartum care, supporting your recovery, your transition into motherhood, and your overall well-being as you adjust to life with your baby. Throughout it all, my work is guided by a few core beliefs: your voice matters and deserves to be heard and respected; your choices are valid and deserve support without judgment; your experience matters, not just the outcome, but how you feel throughout it; and you deserve advocacy, especially in spaces where you may not feel seen.
Overall, my goal is simple: to make sure you feel safe, supported, and confident in one of the most important moments of your life, because you deserve a birth experience where you are respected, empowered, and never alone.
