Hi my name is Liz. I felt called to become a birth doula after my own transformative experience of becoming a mother. Spending nearly a year at home with my son marked the most radical change of my adult life and gave me firsthand insight into the challenges that arise during the transition into motherhood. This transitional period, known as matrescence, is a term coined by anthropologist Dana Raphael in the 1970s.
I was deeply inspired by the support I received from my own doula, postpartum support groups, and others devoted to caring for families through the perinatal period. I am a DONA International–trained birth doula who combines personal experience with professional training to offer families informed, evidence-based, and compassionate care. I understand that matrescence is both a vulnerable and powerful transition, where priorities shift and identity evolves in profound ways. My mission as a doula is to create a calm, supportive environment that empowers families and ensures their voices are heard, respected, and centered throughout their birthing journey.
In addition to my doula work, I am an accomplished artist holding a Master of Fine Arts, with work focused on family history and matriarchal legacies. My artistic background enriches my doula practice, allowing me to honor both the emotional and ancestral dimensions of birth. I also offer custom sketches and paintings that capture parents’ first moments with their babies, providing families with a meaningful keepsake of this profound and life-changing occasion.
