Full Spectrum Doula

Helena Vonk

Hi, I'm Helena! I'm a Black bilingual (English & Spanish) full spectrum birth worker creating safely anchored spaces for people facing big transitions. Whether it's giving birth to a tiny human or grieving the loss of an identity one is shedding, I offer tools to support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing and integration. As a humble student of life, I recognize that my service is made possible thanks to The Most High, Ancestors, guides, and my teachers who have bestowed their blessings, wisdom, and trust upon me.

About Me

Hi, I'm Helena! I'm a Black bilingual (English & Spanish) full spectrum birth worker creating safely anchored spaces for people facing big transitions. Whether it's giving birth to a tiny human or grieving the loss of an identity one is shedding, I offer tools to support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing and integration. As a humble student of life, I recognize that my service is made possible thanks to The Most High, Ancestors, guides, and my teachers who have bestowed their blessings, wisdom, and trust upon me.

My approach to birth work is holistic and rooted in forming meaningful relationships that empower families to be informed, present, and discerning. I will meet you where you are, support you in identifying where you desire to go, and co-create the plan to get you there. With experience in education, hospitality, medical advocacy, healthcare interpreting, and parenting, I feel comfortable and confident in almost any setting.

I believe that culture is the highest form of medicine. When we welcome new life, we are far more open to change for the better because we are considering this new being as well as our capacity as individuals and a collective to care for them. This means that relationships are at the foundation of care. Without trust, humanity, open and honest communication, compassion, and the ability to listen deeply, it is very difficult to make meaningful impact in someone's life. Creating a sustainable and shared culture of care that suits the family—especially the birthing person and baby—is my intention with each family I have the privilege of supporting.

My approach to birth work is to be the unseen force which allows the family to be fully present in the experience they have thoughtfully crafted, with plenty of tools to face any undesired circumstances that may emerge. You are informed and discerning at each step because I and other support people have taken care of unimportant tasks so that you can do the heavy lifting of planning, decision-making, reflecting, and again, being fully present during such a precious time of integration.
