Hi, I'm Dr. Rae. My patients often describe me as bringing “good mom energy” to the birth room—calm, caring, encouraging, and the kind of steady guidance that helps you feel like someone in the room always knows what to do next.
I love getting to know the families I support and what matters most to them. During labor, I'm right there with you with TENS, massage, breathwork, position changes, and whatever helps you cope best. I also help your partner feel comfortable and involved, so we're working together as a team. I stay by your side through active labor, birth, and those first precious moments with your baby, including helping you get started with breastfeeding if that's part of your feeding plan.
I'm also a bit of a birth nerd—I love helping families understand what's happening and why. We'll prepare for the birth you hope for while also talking through the “what ifs,” so a change in plans doesn't have to leave you feeling unprepared.
A little about my background: I'm a Public Health Doctor focused on maternal health, a DONA International Certified Doula, and a childbirth educator. I began supporting births at UC Davis Medical Center with both uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies and now help teach new volunteer birth doulas there.
Birth is unpredictable. My job is to guide you and make sure you don't have to navigate it alone.
I can't wait to meet you!
– Dr. Rae
My philosophy is simple: Labor is unpredictable, but feeling prepared shouldn't be.
I believe the best time to think through birth decisions is before you're asked to make them. Together, we'll explore eight of the most important decisions you may face during labor and birth—what your options are, the pros and cons, and what alternatives may be available if circumstances change.
We'll prepare for the birth you hope for, but we won't stop there. We'll also talk through inductions, pain management, interventions, Cesarean birth, and other unexpected turns, so you're less likely to feel caught off guard if your birth takes a different path.
My goal isn't to prepare you for a "perfect" birth. It's to help you feel ready for your birth—however it unfolds.
Every family comes to birth with a different story, and I welcome them all.
I have experience supporting first-time parents, teen parents, people with disabilities, families of advanced maternal age, and those navigating high-risk or medically complex pregnancies. I especially enjoy working with parents who may be feeling nervous, overwhelmed, or simply unsure of what to expect.
You don't have to know all the right questions or have everything figured out before we meet. Come as you are. We'll take it from there together.
