Hi, I'm Maia! I'm a doula and photographer based in Los Angeles. My passion for women's health began early, growing up in a household with three sisters and watching my mom complete her pediatric residency. I went on to study biology and photography in college and completed pre-medical studies at Columbia University, but I found my true calling in birth work, becoming a doula so I could offer unwavering support to women as they navigate the transformative steps of having a child.
I blend compassionate care with evidence-based practice, and I hold deep respect for each person's journey and how it shapes their mentality around birth. My own path led me to study developmental biology and maternal-fetal medicine, shadowing neonatal and maternal care teams at the University of Southern California. While I have plenty of hospital birth experience, I'm also a huge supporter of home births and birth centers—I'm lucky to count some of LA's best nurse midwives among my friends, and I have the utmost respect for what they do.
One of my favorite things about being a doula is how uniquely well-rounded the role is, I get to show up for women both emotionally and physically, and that support can look different from one day to the next. I did my initial training at Bini Birth under DONA leader Ana Paula Markel and physical care specialist Rebecca Benenati, then studied Spinning Babies to understand the incredible nuance of body positioning and its effects during pregnancy and labor.
My family is of Swedish and Mexican heritage, and I take great pleasure in working with Latino families (I've yet to come across many Swedish ones in LA!). I grew up in Seattle, Stockholm, and New York City before landing in my home of Los Angeles. When I'm not doing birth work, you can find me playing pick-up soccer, reading at Brand Library, hosting game nights, or, more recently, trying to make dumplings.
My approach is gentle, evidence-based, and deeply rooted in listening. Every pregnancy and birth is unique, and I believe there's no single "right" way to move through the process, so I meet each person exactly where they are, with respect for their own path and the way it shapes their birth.
My role is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and advocated for, so you can step into birth feeling grounded and with full ownership over your journey. Whether you're planning a hospital, home, or birth center experience, I'm here to support the birth that's right for you.
I also love taking pregnancy and birth photos for those who wish to document these special moments. Overall, my goal is to help you feel grounded, empowered, and fully supported, so you can move through your birth with confidence and ownership over every step.
