About Me

Hi, I'm Pamela! When I was 16, I became fascinated with birth. After the birth of my daughter, I felt it was time to pursue this dream, but life was busy and I felt childbirth education would be a good way to start. I took Bradley childbirth classes during my own pregnancy (24 hours), then trained to teach (36 hours). I taught childbirth education and prenatal exercise classes at Mt. Diablo Adult Education and began attending births in 1992.

Through this work, I realized that I felt honored to provide continuous calming support to laboring women and was disinterested in providing the medical support of a midwife. I had found my true calling. When my family moved to Santa Rosa, I thought I had landed in birthing heaven—three hospitals and two detached birthing centers all competing to provide the best care to our community. I began teaching childbirth, infant care, and breastfeeding classes at Santa Rosa Birth Center as well as attending births there, where I learned a great deal about supporting natural childbirth. Most births I attend are currently in hospitals, and I also provide additional postpartum care for families.

I want my clients to feel empowered as they make decisions prior to birth, during labor, and afterward. I want to provide a calming presence throughout this precious time and ensure that both parents feel they are participants. It's not only important to care for the pregnant parent but also the partner or spouse. I am not attached to any particular "way" to give birth—my joy comes from supporting families by providing information and support as they make these decisions. It's not my job to tell you what to do; it's my honor to walk beside you as you discover what feels right for your family.
