Hi, my name is Sophie. I believe birth changes a woman — not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. How supported you feel during that time matters more than most people realize. I’m a birth and postpartum doula based in Los Angeles, and I’ve supported more than 100 families through pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period.

Hi, I'm Sophie Fahnenstich! I'm a birth and postpartum doula based in Los Angeles, and I've had the honor of supporting over 100 families through pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period. Birth changes a woman, not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, and how supported you feel during that time matters more than most people realize. What I've seen over and over is this: when a woman feels held and seen, she can move through the challenges of this season with far more strength and grace. Supporting families through it is truly my calling.
My work blends evidence-based education with steady, grounded emotional support. I help you understand your options, regulate your nervous system, nourish your body, and prepare for birth in a way that feels empowering instead of overwhelming. I support hospital births, birth center births, and home births alike, because I believe birth is safest when women feel safe, and that safety is created through preparation, advocacy, nutrition, and presence.
As a single mother myself, I understand how transformative and vulnerable this season can be. My goal isn't just to help you "get through" birth, it's to help you step into motherhood feeling strong, steady, and supported.
My philosophy is rooted in the belief that birth works best when a woman feels safe—physically, emotionally, and physiologically—and that belief shapes everything about how I show up. My approach is built around three pillars: preparation, nervous system regulation, and nourishment. I've seen what becomes possible when all three are in place, and what happens when they're missing; it changes everything.
During pregnancy, we do the real work of making sure you understand your body, your options, and the full range of what birth can look like, not just the version you're hoping for, but all of it. I've sat with enough women after their births to know that feeling blindsided is one of the hardest things to recover from, so we go in prepared and grounded rather than caught off guard.
In labor, I'm there with you—steady, present, and hands-on—supporting the physiology your body already knows while helping your nervous system stay regulated, because when you feel genuinely safe and held, your body can work so much more efficiently. I'm in your corner for comfort, for advocacy, and to make sure you never feel alone. Postpartum gets that same intention: rest, nutrient-dense food, emotional processing, and real practical support, so you come out of those early weeks feeling restored rather than depleted.
More than anything, my role is to make sure you feel seen. When a woman is truly supported through this season, she finds a depth of strength in herself that I never get tired of witnessing.
