Uwem Ward is “The Walking Doula”, a Prenatal Mindset Coach, Maternal Fitness Specialist, and Perinatal Doula serving Black and Neurodivergent Women who want to enter birth and motherhood with clarity, strength, and agency.
With advanced training in Exercise Science and Nutrition, and decades of experience in Spiritual Identity Coaching and Recovery-centered leadership, she integrates evidence-based fitness guidance with trauma-informed emotional support to prepare her clients for, not just labor and delivery, but for her journey into motherhood.
Her work centers mothers — not systems, not trends, not performance — but the woman herself.
Uwem specializes in the intersection of identity (self-awareness), internalized trauma, and recovery from those experiences. She is uniquely positioned as a doula because she professionally and personally understands the need for additional support for women who have historically been overlooked, dismissed, or misunderstood in medical spaces. She understands that for many Black women, pregnancy is not just a physical event; it is layered with generational narratives, systemic inequities, and unspoken pressure to be “strong.” For neurodivergent mothers, pregnancy can bring sensory overwhelm, communication challenges, and a need for structure that is rarely accommodated.
She creates environments where mothers do not have to perform or feign strength — they can be surrounded by it. She coaches both parents, so mothers can be supported by the team and the community that they need.
Whether supporting a first-time mother stepping into motherhood on her own terms or a seasoned mom choosing to do birth differently, Uwem’s approach weaves physical preparation, nervous system regulation, advocacy support, and postpartum integration.
Her work extends beyond birth into identity — helping women step into motherhood not diminished, but expanded.
